How much battery capacity do I actually need?
Work backwards from your fridge. A 40 to 50 litre compressor fridge averages roughly 25 to 35 amp-hours per 24 hours in Australian summer conditions. Add lights, charging and a water pump, then choose a battery whose usable capacity covers two to three days.
Lithium or AGM for a canopy setup?
Lithium gives about 90% usable capacity against roughly 50% for AGM and weighs about half as much, so a 100 Ah lithium replaces close to a 180 Ah AGM. For a canopy where weight and space are tight, that trade is usually worth the extra cost.
Can you add solar later?
Yes, if the system is designed for it now. Fitting an MPPT-ready fuse position and an Anderson solar input during the original build makes adding panels later a short job instead of a rebuild.
