Quick answer

Where can I get a dual battery system fitted near Flinders?

Wired Right Auto Electrical and Car Audio fits dual battery systems for Flinders from a workshop in Albion Park Rail, about nine minutes away. Systems are sized from your actual daily amp-hour use, use a DC-DC charger rated 25 to 50 amps to suit the battery, and are cabled to hold voltage drop under 3% on the run to the tray.

Flinders is one of the newer growth suburbs above Shellharbour Junction, and its driveways say a lot about what people do on weekends. Dual-cab utes with canopies, camper trailers, and a growing number of vans. That means touring power is the dominant local job.

Most of these vehicles have smart alternators, which changes the answer entirely. A plain isolator will not charge an auxiliary battery on a vehicle whose alternator drops to around 12.3 volts once the start battery is full. A DC-DC charger will.

What we see most from Flinders

Smart alternator systems

Late-model utes need a DC-DC charger, not a voltage-sensitive relay, or the second battery will never reach full charge.

Canopy and drawer electrics

Anderson feeds, internal fuse panels, lighting and USB built into the fitout rather than bolted on afterwards.

Honest capacity maths

Fridge duty cycle and daily amp-hours are calculated first, so you buy the battery you need rather than the one in the package deal.

Flinders: common questions

How much battery capacity do I actually need?

Work backwards from your fridge. A 40 to 50 litre compressor fridge averages roughly 25 to 35 amp-hours per 24 hours in Australian summer conditions. Add lights, charging and a water pump, then choose a battery whose usable capacity covers two to three days.

Lithium or AGM for a canopy setup?

Lithium gives about 90% usable capacity against roughly 50% for AGM and weighs about half as much, so a 100 Ah lithium replaces close to a 180 Ah AGM. For a canopy where weight and space are tight, that trade is usually worth the extra cost.

Can you add solar later?

Yes, if the system is designed for it now. Fitting an MPPT-ready fuse position and an Anderson solar input during the original build makes adding panels later a short job instead of a rebuild.
