What does hardwiring a dash cam involve?
Hardwiring a dash cam replaces the cigarette-lighter plug with a fused connection at the fuse box, typically a switched feed, a constant feed for parking mode and an earth, depending on the kit. Wired Right in Albion Park Rail routes the cable inside the trim, planned around airbag areas, and sets the hardwire kit’s selectable low-voltage cutoff to suit the vehicle and battery. The cutoff reduces the risk of parking mode flattening the battery, but it cannot guarantee the engine will start, particularly with an older battery, short trips or a car left parked for long periods.
We hardwire reversing cameras, dash cams and parking sensors so they run from properly fused circuits rather than the accessory socket. Cables are run inside the trim where practical, exterior cable entries are sealed, and the camera trigger is taken from a circuit that suits the vehicle.

Will a dash cam in parking mode flatten my battery?
It can. A hardwire kit with a low-voltage cutoff reduces the risk by stopping recording when battery voltage falls to the selected setting. The cutoff is selectable, and a higher setting suits some situations, such as an older battery, cold weather, short trips or a car parked for several days. The right setting depends on the installation and the battery, and no cutoff can guarantee the engine will start. If the car sits for long periods, a shorter parking mode timer or turning parking mode off may be the safer choice.
Can a reversing camera be added to my factory screen?
Sometimes. It depends on the exact vehicle and head unit, and whether a suitable video interface is available for that combination. Where the factory screen cannot accept a camera input, a separate monitor or a digital rear-view mirror is an alternative. We confirm the option for your vehicle before work is authorised.
Do you fit cameras to caravans and trailers?
Yes. Wired and wireless systems both have their place, depending on the van, whether you swap between tow vehicles and the product chosen. Some systems can switch the display automatically when reverse is selected or the trailer is connected, others are switched manually. We confirm how your system will work before fitting.
Do parking sensors remove the blind spot behind the car?
No. Parking sensors and reversing cameras help you judge the distance to objects, but they do not cover the whole area around the vehicle and can miss low, thin or moving objects, including children. They are an aid, not a replacement for checking around the vehicle, using your mirrors and reversing slowly.
Why has my reversing camera gone black or flickery?
Possible causes include the camera itself, a connector or earth, the power or trigger circuit, damaged cabling, or the screen or interface. We test these before recommending a replacement, so you are not buying a camera you may not need. Some faults require inspection and testing before a repair estimate can be provided.
Can you fit 360° cameras or blind-spot monitoring?
Yes, subject to the vehicle. These are aftermarket accessory systems, fitted and set up to the product maker’s instructions. We do not calibrate factory driver-assistance (ADAS) systems such as manufacturer-fitted cameras or radar sensors.
