Will a new head unit break my reversing camera or steering wheel controls?
It depends on the vehicle, the existing equipment and the head unit selected. Vehicle-specific harnesses and interfaces can retain steering wheel controls and a factory reversing camera on many vehicles, but not every function can be kept on every vehicle. We will confirm what can be retained before work is authorised.
Can I get wireless Apple CarPlay in an older car?
Often, yes. Many vehicles can take an aftermarket head unit with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto using a fascia kit and harness made for that model. Vehicles with factory screens or integrated climate controls may need an integration module, or may not suit a head unit replacement. Send us the vehicle details and we can discuss the options.
Why does my subwoofer cut out when the bass hits?
It can be the amplifier going into protection. Possible causes include voltage drop from undersized power cable or a poor earth, gain set too high, an impedance mismatch, overheating, or a fault in the amplifier or subwoofer itself. Checking the power, earth and settings helps work out which applies.
What is a whining noise that changes with engine revs?
A whine that rises and falls with engine speed is often called alternator whine. It can come from a ground loop, a poor earth, signal cables routed near power cables, or a faulty component. Keeping signal and power cables apart is good practice, but the cause needs to be found before the right fix is clear.
Do I need sound deadening?
It depends on the vehicle and what you want to improve. Treating the doors can reduce panel resonance and road noise and may help mid-bass from door speakers. We can talk through whether it suits your vehicle and budget.
