What is auto electrical diagnostics and why is it charged separately?
Auto electrical diagnostics is the measured process of locating a fault before any part is replaced. At Wired Right in Albion Park Rail it combines a scan tool reading stored and live data with physical testing, voltage drop, oscilloscope traces and CAN-bus signal checks. It is quoted separately from repair because a fault code names a circuit, not a broken component, and the two are frequently different.
A check engine light is a symptom, not an answer. Code P0301 tells you cylinder one is misfiring; it does not tell you whether the cause is an injector, a coil, a wiring chafe against the head or a corroded earth behind the intake manifold. Replacing parts against a code is how a $180 repair becomes a $900 one.
We diagnose by measurement. Live data from the scan tool tells us what the module believes; a multimeter, amp clamp and oscilloscope tell us what the circuit is actually doing. When those two disagree, that is where the fault lives.
For intermittent faults, the ones that only appear over the railway crossing at Albion Park Rail or after a week of rain, we use recorded live data and wiggle-testing so the fault can be captured rather than hoped for.

Can you just read the codes for free?
A code read on its own is easy to get and rarely useful. A parts store will do it in the carpark. What we charge for is the interpretation and physical testing that turns a code into a confirmed fault, which is the part that saves money.
The last workshop replaced parts and the light came back. Why?
Because the code named the circuit, not the failure. If the wiring, earth or connector feeding that component is the real fault, a new part will set the same code within days. We test the circuit before condemning the component for exactly this reason.
My fault only happens sometimes. Is it worth booking in?
Yes, but tell us the pattern: cold start, over bumps, after rain, or only with the air conditioning on. Intermittent faults are found by reproducing the condition, so the trigger you have noticed is the single most valuable piece of information in the job.
Do you diagnose faults caused by other people’s accessory installs?
Frequently. Poorly installed dash cams, alarms, driving lights and stereos are a common source of parasitic drain, phantom warning lights and lost-communication codes. We find the tap, remove it and re-do the circuit properly.
Will a scan tool find a wiring fault?
Only indirectly. A scan tool reports what a module measured; it cannot see a chafed wire or a high-resistance earth. That is why every diagnosis here includes physical testing of the circuit as well as the electronic data.
